Unveiled by Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas CG AC this Sunday were two Peace Statues located at Llanberis, a village located near Snowdonia National Park and Treborth, located near the banks of the Menai straits.  Approximately 11 miles apart, these two statues gifted to the community from the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run. A project that gives an opportunity for those of us searching for harmony in everyday life to partake in a global torch relay that embodies humanity’s universal aspiration for peace.

The statues starting or end points features a Bronze figure depicting the run’s founder, Sri Chinmoy, holding and passing on the Peace Torch are placed alongside a statement explaining the vision of the project, carved into 500 million year old Welsh Slate. Carefully crafted at Inigo Jones Slate Works, a timeless vision is shared with others on fine enduring Welsh Slate, both, sure to last the test of time.

With similar statues placed around the globe, the figures placed here in North Wales included Welsh Slate into the design, giving a local connection to a global lesson of encouraging a balanced lifestyle. Slate also a prominent feature of the local surroundings also helps to harmonise the vision of this project, connecting the idea with the rugged and natural landscape.

Now that the challenge is set, hikers, cyclists and runners are invited to travel any rout between both statues, recording their story to share and inspire others, with a peaceful start and ending at each statue with a moment of meditation to reflect on their journey.
