Group Bookings at Inigo Jones Book a tour at Inigo Jones

Inigo Jones Slate Works was founded in 1861 primarily to prefabricate school writing slates. Today the company uses the same raw material, namely natural welsh slate to prefabricate architectural, memorial and craft products.

The company is now also a visitor attraction encouraging visitors to have an insight into how slate is worked and made into such items as sills, copings, steps and kitchen work tops. In addition visitors can see how plaques and nameplates are engraved.

The self guided tour takes about one hour and includes and introductory video followed with a tour around the slate works with a commentary provided on a walkman. There are also Geological, Historical, Calligraphy and Letter cutting exhibitions which are both interesting and educational. An opportunity exists to have a go at calligraphy and letter cutting on slate. A small piece of slate is supplied to have a go at engraving on and you are allowed to keep this as a permanent souvenir.

For children there is also a quiz and there is a slate prize for all.
